Tips on Presenting

When presenting in front of a class there are many tips to ensure it is effective. Knowing who the audience is and understanding the topic are vital to giving a good presentation.

First, knowing and involving the audience is the best way to capture their attention. When choosing a topic, keep the audience in mind. If unable to choose a topic, try finding an aspect that the audience can relate to. (Nardis) Another tip to involving an audience is to ask questions during the oral presentation. “This is a great way to keep them awake and get them more interested in what you have to say.” (Admin) By having the audience in mind, the presentation will run more smoothly.

Next, it is a necessity to understand the topic that is being presented. The easiest mistake in presenting is being uneducated on the subject matter. “People often think that they can gather together a few basic points about the subject matter and get through the presentation. However, this is often transparent and results in a lowered grade or less respect from the audience.” (Nardis) Always conduct the appropriate research beforehand, whether that means conducting interviews, going to the library, or researching on the internet. In conclusion, when giving a presentation do the necessary research, first on the audience and how to capture their attention, and then on the subject itself. This will make the presentation a success.
